As the Green Amendment seeks to constitutionally recognize environmental rights for all people\, the BLAC Policy and Storytelling Summit uplifts the specific struggles and solutions of Black Appalachian communities who have long borne the brunt of environmental degradation. By connecting these two movements\, the Summit not only amplifies the call for systemic change but also reinforces the urgent need to embed Appalachian stories and solutions into the very fabric of our legal systems and proposed policy changes. Attendees can join virtually OR attend in-person in Pittsburgh\, PA! \nWhat is the BLAC Storytelling and Policy Summit? \n\nThe BLAC Storytelling and Policy Summit is where lived experiences meet legislative action. Black Appalachian communities have long been on the frontlines of environmental harm\, yet our voices are too often excluded from decision-making spaces. \nBy blending storytelling and policy change\, we ensure that those most impacted are heard and leading the fight for justice. DESCRIPTION:Environmental Rights Amendments: A Constitutional Approach to State Climate Policy\nAs the federal government threatens states’ authority to regulate climate policy\, Environmental Rights Amendments (ERAs) present a key opportunity for states to guarantee the right to a clean and healthy environment through a constitutional mandate. These amendments can be used to advance critical efforts in the states where they exist\, protecting residents against groundwater contamination\, hazardous air pollution\, natural resource extraction\, and other climate and environmental impacts. They also can be a key tool in regulating greenhouse gas emissions. \nJoin a panel of experts to dive into the basics of ERAs\, including key policy design considerations and how they’ve been used to secure legal victories.
