SUMMARY:Connecticut Amendment Up For a Hearing - Testimony & Written Comments Needed
DESCRIPTION:It’s Time to Testify for Connecticut’s Environmental Rights Amendment\nMarch 4 @ 10:30 am in person\, online or in writing.\nThis is the time to make your voice heard at the CT General Assembly in support of the CT Environmental Rights Amendment! \nThe public hearing is when the legislators are most likely to be listening to and reading what you have to say\, and then what you say goes into the public record! \nHere is the language of the resolution proposing the CT ERA. This is language our team proposed last year\, so we are happy to see strong language again.  To follow the progress of the resolution click here: SJ 37. \n  \nWhat you can do: \nRegister to testify in person or on zoom.  Click here and sign up. \nSubmit written testimony in SUPPORT of SJ 37. Here’s the form to submit written testimony. Select the hearing date (March 4)\, and select SJ37 (the first resolution on the list). \n  \nTemplate for your written testimony: \nI am writing in SUPPORT of SJ 37\, Resolution Proposing an Amendment to the State Constitution Concerning Environmental Rights. \n{Give your name\, town\, and any organization you represent. Add any personal story about why you care about environmental rights.} \n  \nTalking points: \nClean and healthy air\, water\, soil\, and ecosystems\, a clean and healthy environment\, and a safe and stable climate are fundamental human rights and essential to the health and survival of the people of Connecticut. \nThis resolution will put environmental rights before the people in a referendum. This is democracy in action. Let the people decide! \nWith the Federal government rapidly dismantling environmental protections and the Environmental Protection Agency\, establishing these environmental rights in the Declaration of Rights in the Connecticut State Constitution is more important than ever. \nThe CT Environmental Rights Amendment will: \n\nRaise environmental justice to the highest constitutional standing and enforceability\,\nStrengthen our existing laws and address any gaps or loopholes that result in environmental harm\,\nFocus the government on preventing pollution and environmental degradation\, rather than simply permitting it\,\nProtect our environment and climate for both current and future generations.\n\n  \nOnce you have sent your written testimony to the committee\, send a copy to your legislators\, and ask them to co-sponsor SJ 37.  You can find your legislators here.

SUMMARY:Ambassador Training: How To Talk About Green Amendments in Data Center Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:Upcoming Ambassador Training! \nHow To Talk About Green Amendments in Data Center Advocacy \nData centers are proliferating across the United States during a time when there are a lack of laws\, regulations\, ordinances\, and zoning protections to defend our communities from these hyperscale development proposals. Many are wondering: what pathways exist for the people to ensure we are not introducing critical environmental threats to our cherished places and spaces? \nOne option: passing a constitutional Green Amendment that: \n\nprotects the people’s rights to clean\, safe\, and healthy environments to the same degree as other fundamental freedoms\, like free speech;\nPlaces an obligation on state & local government to act as the trustee of the state’s natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.\n\nIn this Ambassador training\, learn how you can talk about Green Amendments in your data center advocacy and spread awareness about how Green Amendments offer powerful protections when there are gaps in existing environmental law. We will also have time for question & answer and a review of our materials for reaching out to community groups. \nWHEN: Tuesday\, March 31 at 6PM ET / 5PM CT / 4 PM MT / 3PM PT \nWHERE: Register for the training on Zoom.  \n  \nA recording of this training will be made available on our Green Amendments Action Platform under ‘Programs’.

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Virtual Town Hall on Data Centers
DESCRIPTION:The Better Path Coalition and No False Climate Solutions PA are hosting a statewide virtual town hall on data centers from 7 – 9 p.m. on May 13. \nIn the past year\, Pennsylvanians have experienced a tsunami of data center proposals. The known impacts of the data centers themselves\, as well as those of the fossil fuel and nuclear infrastructure necessary to power them\, are profound. Additional impacts are being identified as research struggles to catch up with the data center development. \nGovernor Josh Shapiro boasts that he “Gets Stuff Done.” To date\, “Gets Stuff Done” has involved brokering deals\, promoting industry-friendly policies and subsidies\, pressing to add more power generation to the grid\, and smoothing the way for data center developers with fast-tracked permitting and other assists. \nThe one thing he has not gotten done is hearing from his constituents. The Better Path and No False Climate Solutions PA Coalitions — have attempted to work with the Gov’s office to schedule a statewide virtual town hall. He has not made himself available for two hours to hear from the people. \nSince he refused to work with us\, we are now scheduling the town hall for 7 – 9 p.m. on May 13 and are inviting him\, federal and state legislators\, regulators\, local officials\, and press to attend. We will deliver a 4′ engraved invitation to his office on May 5. \nHere’s how you can participate:\nYou can sign on to the official petition calling for Governor Shapiro to attend the town hall and hear our voices. Individual names signed in this petition will be automatically added to the physical 4′ engraved invitation we are planning on delivering to the Governor’s office on May 5th. \nSign the petition \nIf you want to add your organization to the invitation\, please sign up below. (If you do not want your individual name to appear on the invitation\, you can specify that here as well). \nAdd your name or organization to the engraved invitation \nThe virtual town hall is scheduled for Wednesday\, May 13th\, 7:00- 9:00pm. \nRegister to ATTEND the town hall \nIf you would like to make a 3-minute statement at the town hall\, please sign up here. Spaces are filling up fast\, so sign up now! \nRegister to SPEAK at the town hall
