SUMMARY:Free Library of Northampton Township Zoominar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Zoom webinar as the Free Library of Northampton Township welcomes veteran environmentalist and original petitioner and leader of the Green Amendment movement\, Maya van Rossum to discuss her new book\, The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment\, followed by Q&A.  Meet Maya on Zoom and learn about the future of environmental advocacy! \nThis event is free and open to the public. \nWhen:\nSaturday\, August 8\, 2020\, 2:00 pm \nRegister on Zoom here! \n\n  \nAbout the book:\nIn the decades long fight for a cleaner environment\, we’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. People feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and special natural spaces. \nThe solution\, argues Delaware Riverkeeper Maya K. van Rossum in a pathbreaking book\, is to bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority: our state and federal constitutions. In 2013\, van Rossum and her team won a watershed legal victory that not only protected Pennsylvania communities from ruthless frackers\, but affirmed the constitutional right of people in the state to a clean and healthy environment. \nFollowing this victory\, van Rossum inaugurated the Green Amendment movement\, dedicated to empowering every American community to mobilize for constitutional change. In The Green Amendment\, van Rossum lays out an inspiring new agenda for environmental advocacy\, one that will finally empower people. \nWe all have the right to pure water\, clean air\, and a healthy environment. It’s time to claim that right—for our own sake and that of future generations. \nThe Green Amendment has been honored as a 2018 Living Now Evergreen Awards GOLD Winner in the Nature Conservation category\, received an Honorable Mention in the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards\, and includes a powerful foreword authored by Mark Ruffalo\, which supports the visionary constitutional path advocated for in the book. \nPurchase a copy of The Green Amendment here. \nAbout the Author:\nMaya K. van Rossum is the Delaware Riverkeeper and leader for the Delaware Riverkeeper Network. The Delaware Riverkeeper Network works throughout the four states of the Delaware River watershed (NY\, NJ\, PA & DE) and at the national level using advocacy\, science and litigation. van Rossum\, who is skilled as an environmental attorney\, strategist\, community organizer\, facilitator\, coalition builder and manager\, has led DRN for over 23 years. She is author of The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment and is the original petitioner and leader of the Green Amendment movement\, seeking to inspire and secure constitutional protection for environmental rights across the nation. Maya is also a lifetime resident of Radnor Township\, Pennsylvania\, having grown up in Villanova and now residing with her family in Bryn Mawr. During her years in Radnor\, she has enjoyed the creeks and natural space of Radnor and the Delaware County region. Some of these experiences feature prominently in her book.

SUMMARY:Sustainability Now Screening of Here’s the Story: The Green Amendment
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of the film Here’s The Story: The Green Amendment\, hosted by Sustainability Now. \nRegister here to attend. \nThursday\, September 3\, 2020\, 7:00pm to 8:30pm ET \nHere’s The Story is an Emmy nominated show\, produced by New Jersey’s acclaimed journalist Steve Rogers. In the two part episode\, Rogers follows Maya van Rossum\, founder of Green Amendments For The Generations\, as she travels across New Jersey exploring why a Green Amendment is needed and how it can protect all people regardless of race\, ethnicity\, religion or income. The two part special features interviews with Governor Murphy\, Trenton Mayor Guscior and environmental justice leaders from across the state. \nAs outlined in the show\, a Green Amendment will greatly enhance the tools available to communities of color\, indigenous and low-income communities to remedy current environmental threats they face. It also provides the opportunity to push back against further devastation by granting a fundamental human right that asserts no person should suffer disproportionate environmental\, health and quality of life burdens because of who they are\, the color of their skin\, their ethnicity\, their income\, or where they live.

SUMMARY:A Green Amendment for New Jersey - Loankata New Jersey Sierra Club
DESCRIPTION:For decades\, communities have relied on Federal and State laws to ensure protection of a clean environment. And for decades\, while achieving some important successes in environmental protection\, overall the health of our environment for present and future generations has continued to degrade from a growing number of sources. The truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution as much as\, perhaps even more than\, to prevent it. As a result people feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and natural spaces. But there is a solution for achieving better\, and much needed\, protection of our environment: bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority—our state and federal constitutions. \nThe Loankata Group of the New Jersey Sierra Club welcomes Maya van Rossum\, founder of the Green Amendment movement\, to discuss and inspire a new tool for environmental preservation\, one that will provide a new way of thinking about\, and pursuing\, environmental protection from a policy as well as a legal perspective. \nWe all have the right to pure water\, clean air\, and a healthy environment. This talk will focus on how to truly secure that right for our own sake and that of future generations. \nWednesday\, November 11\, 2020\, 7:30pm ET\n \nRegister to attend online:\nhttp://bit.ly/RegisterLoankataSC \n
