SUMMARY:Indivisible Nob Hill
DESCRIPTION:Veteran environmentalist and original petitioner and leader of the Green Amendment movement\, Maya van Rossum will be speaking at an event hosted by Indivisible Nob Hill\, discussing her new book\, The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment\, followed by Q&A and signing. Come out and meet Maya\, pick up a copy of the book\, and learn about the future of environmental advocacy! \nWhen:\nMonday\, August 19\, 2019\, 5:30pm-7:00pm\nWhere:\nO’Niell’s\n4310 Central Ave SE\nAlbuquerque\, NM \n  \n\nAbout the book:\nIn the decades long fight for a cleaner environment\, we’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. People feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and special natural spaces. \nThe solution\, argues Delaware Riverkeeper Maya K. van Rossum in a pathbreaking book\, is to bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority: our state and federal constitutions. In 2013\, van Rossum and her team won a watershed legal victory that not only protected Pennsylvania communities from ruthless frackers\, but affirmed the constitutional right of people in the state to a clean and healthy environment. \nFollowing this victory\, van Rossum inaugurated the Green Amendment movement\, dedicated to empowering every American community to mobilize for constitutional change. In The Green Amendment\, van Rossum lays out an inspiring new agenda for environmental advocacy\, one that will finally empower people. \nWe all have the right to pure water\, clean air\, and a healthy environment. It’s time to claim that right—for our own sake and that of future generations. \nThe Green Amendment has been honored as a 2018 Living Now Evergreen Awards GOLD Winner in the Nature Conservation category\, received an Honorable Mention in the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards\, and includes a powerful foreword authored by Mark Ruffalo\, which supports the visionary constitutional path advocated for in the book. \nPurchase a copy of The Green Amendment here. \nAbout the Author:\nMaya K. van Rossum is the Delaware Riverkeeper and leader for the Delaware Riverkeeper Network.  The Delaware Riverkeeper Network works throughout the four states of the Delaware River watershed (NY\, NJ\, PA & DE) and at the national level using advocacy\, science and litigation. van Rossum\, who is skilled as an environmental attorney\, strategist\, community organizer\, facilitator\, coalition builder and manager\, has led DRN for over 23 years. She is author of The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment and is the original petitioner and leader of the Green Amendment movement\, seeking to inspire and secure constitutional protection for environmental rights across the nation.  Maya is also a lifetime resident of Radnor Township\, Pennsylvania\, having grown up in Villanova and now residing with her family in Bryn Mawr.  During her years in Radnor\, she has enjoyed the creeks and natural space of Radnor and the Delaware County region.  Some of these experiences feature prominently in her book.

SUMMARY:Water/Ways\, a Museum on Main Street exhibition organized by the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service
DESCRIPTION:******This event\, originally scheduled for Monday\, September 16\, 2019\, 6:30pm\, has been CANCELLED***** \nOcean County Library Manchester Branch welcomes veteran environmentalist\, Delaware Riverkeeper and leader of the nationwide Green Amendment movement\, Maya van Rossum\, for a discussion on constitutional environmental rights and the historic opportunity to protect them facing New Jersey. Join us to learn about a new strategy for environmental protection and pick up a copy of Maya’s award-winning book on the topic\, The Green Amendment\, Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment. \nWhen:\nMonday\, September 16\, 2019\, 6:30pm\nWhere:\nOcean County Library – Manchester\n21 Colonial Dr.\nManchester Township\, NJ \nRegistration is required for this event. \nThis talk is being held as part of Ocean County Library’s programming in support of Water/Ways\, a Museum on Main Street exhibition organized by the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service and was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities\, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. \nAny views\, findings\, conclusions\, or recommendations expressed in Water/Ways related programming do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. \nThe Water/Ways exhibit is on display at the Toms River Branch (101 Washington Street\, Toms River\, NJ 08753) from August 19 through September 29. \n\nAbout the book:\nIn the decades long fight for a cleaner environment\, we’ve been fighting a losing battle.
