SUMMARY:CTNOFA Winter Conference Keynote
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 23\, 2024\nEastern Connecticut State University\nWillimantic\, CT\n \nTickets available now\nCTNOFA will be hosting its 42nd annual Winter Conference on March 23\, 2024. The conference will feature a variety of workshops\, covering topics such as farming\, seed saving\, organic land care\, community food security\, social justice issues\, and more\, including a keynote address by Maya van Rossum\, founder of the Green Amendments for the Generations organization \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaya K. van Rossum is the Founder of Green Amendments For the Generations\, a grassroots non-profit organization inspiring a nationwide movement to secure constitutional recognition and protection of environmental rights in every state and ultimately at the federal level. van Rossum is also the Delaware Riverkeeper\, leading the watershed based advocacy organization\, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network\, for over 30 years in its efforts to protect the health of the Delaware River and its tributaries. \nA skilled activist\, attorney\, strategist\, and community organizer\, she has testified multiple times\, by invitation\, before US Congressional Committees; was named among Philadelphia Business Journal’s Power 100 in 2019 and one of the “10 Most Influential People of 2015” When It Comes to Energy Issues by SNL Energy; is the recipient of the 2022 PA Interfaith Power & Light Visionary Award\, the 2020 River Hero by River Network\, and the Giraffe Hero award\, given to those who have the courage to stick their necks out for the common good. \nHer writing has been featured in such publications as Fortune Magazine\, BloombergLaw\, Law360\, the Boston Globe\, and TIME Magazine. She is author of The Green Amendment: The People’s Fight for a Clean\, Safe\, and Healthy Environment. Since launching Green Amendments For The Generations\, constitutional amendments have been proposed in 15 states\, with New York formally passing a Green Amendment in 2021. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor decades\, communities have relied on laws to ensure protection of a clean environment. The truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution as much as — perhaps even more than — preventing it. As a result people feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and natural spaces. But there is a solution for achieving better\, and much needed\, protection of our environment: bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority — our state and federal constitutions. \nMaya van Rossum will discuss a new and inspirational tool for environmental preservation\, one that will provide a new way of thinking about and pursuing environmental protection from both a policy and legal perspective. \nWe all have the right to pure water\, clean air\, and a healthy environment. Maya’s talk will focus on how to truly secure that right\, not only for our own sake\, but also for that of future generations. \n\nFor more information about the Conference\, please visit \nhttps://ctnofa.org/winter-conference/2024-winter-conference/ \n

SUMMARY:New Mexico Green Amendment -- Getting Up To Speed & Building Momentum
DESCRIPTION:  \nAre you tired of fighting all year long against the injustice being done to our environment? Having emails that ask you to show up at city\, county\, and state levels to beg our elected officials not to make decisions that harm our right to clean air\, water\, soil\, and a healthy environment? Since the 2024 legislature has come to an end I know we have had to fight Water Reuse Rule Changes (for MLG to go around the legislature for a strategic water supply)\, the aerial spraying of the Greater Chaco\, Liquified Natural Gas Plants\, methane leaks\, heavy industrial zoning in already overburdened communities for asphalt plants or increased oil & gas drilling… and so much more! \n  \nYou know what would stop all of these whack-a-mole injustices in their tracks? A Green Amendment– A constitutional right\, written into our Bill of Rights\, that clearly states We The People have the right to clean air\, water\, soil\, and a healthy environment– AND make remedies for bad actors\, pollutive industries\, and write the wrongs of exploitation of our land. To do this\, we need to build our coalition now so our voices are heard in the 2025 Session.  \n  \nJoin the New Mexico Green Amendment Coalition\, legislative champions\, and Founder Maya van Rossum \n  \nWhen: Thursday\, June 20\, 6 to 7 pm \n  \nWhere: O’Niell’s Pub\, 4310 Central Ave SE\, Albuquerque\, NM 87108 and on Zoom (webinar info coming soon) \n  \nZoom Registration:  \nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_KtxtTqlvSVa0t14G5Wyj_A \n  \nWhat: Join the local New Mexico Green Amendment Coalition members\, legislative sponsors\, and national Green Amendment expert & founder Maya van Rossum to get up to speed\, learn\, ask your questions and offer your input on securing a New Mexico Green Amendment in 2025. Light refreshments will be complementary.  \n  \nWhy: All of the people in our Land of Enchantment\, including future generations\, deserve a constitutionally protected right to a healthy environment and climate including water\, soil\, air\, ecosystems and environment.  \n  \nLearn more: https://nmgreenamendment.org/ \n  \nFacebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/3786352148300084/ \n  \nAll of the people in our Land of Enchantment\, including future generations\, deserve a constitutionally protected right to a healthy environment and climate including water\, soil\, air\, ecosystems and environment.  Together we can make it happen!
