SUMMARY:Unitarian Church of Somerville\, NJ
DESCRIPTION:New Jersey legislators have proposed a constitutional Green Amendment that will recognize and protect the rights of all the people of the state\, including future generations\, to pure water\, clean air\, a stable climate and healthy environments. \nFor decades\, communities have relied on Federal and State laws to ensure protection of a clean environment. And for decades\, while achieving some important successes in environmental protection\, overall\, the health of our environment for present and future generations has continued to degrade. Currently\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than to prevent it.  But there is a solution for achieving better\, and much needed\, protection of our environment\, and that is to turn to the ultimate authority—our state and federal constitutions. \nWe all have the right to pure water\, clean air\, and a healthy environment.  It’s time to focus on how to truly secure that right for our own sake and that of future generations.  What would a Green Amendment mean for the state of New Jersey? What is its impact to stewardship and environmental justice?   What can you do to help? \nCome to a presentation by Maya K. van Rossum on 3/30/21 at 7:15 pm.  Maya K. van Rossum an award-winning Founder of Green Amendments For the Generations\, a grassroots non-profit organization inspiring a nationwide movement to secure constitutional recognition and protection of environmental rights in every state and ultimately at the federal level. \nParticipation in this event is free\, but you must register in advance to get the event link. Register here:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/…/tZUof…\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.\n\nQuestions may be directed to GreenSanctuary@uucsh.org

SUMMARY:Environmental Justice Team\, Unitarian Society of Ridgewood\, NJ
DESCRIPTION:Environmental Justice Team of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood\, NJ is hosting GAFTG Founder Maya van Rossum for a presentation and Q&A on April 28th at 7:00pm EDT. \nFor decades\, communities have relied on Federal and State laws to ensure protection of a clean environment. And for decades\, while achieving some important successes in environmental protection\, overall the health of our environment for present and future generations has continued to degrade from a growing number of sources. The truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution as much as\, perhaps even more than\, to prevent it. As a result\, people feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and natural spaces. But there is a solution for achieving better\, and much needed\, protection of our environment: bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority—our state and federal constitutions. \nMaya van Rossum lays out a new agenda for environmental advocacy that can empower every American state to mobilize for constitutional change\, and New Jersey is poised to become the first state with a modern day Green Amendment. \nWe all have the right to pure water\, clean air\, and a healthy environment.  It’s time to focus on how to truly secure that right for our own sake and that of future generations. \nZoom info to join: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/94982151804?pwd=QkxOUVpXVExIdkNDc3M1cWVPTklTdz09 \nMeeting ID: 949 8215 1804 \nPasscode: 339267

SUMMARY:The Green Amendment: Protecting & Defending PA Against Extraction & Pollution
DESCRIPTION:In the decades long fight for a cleaner environment\, we’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. People feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and special natural spaces. \nThe solution\, argues Delaware Riverkeeper Maya K. van Rossum\, is to bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority: our state and federal constitutions. In 2013\, van Rossum and her team won a watershed legal victory that not only protected Pennsylvania communities from ruthless frackers\, but affirmed the constitutional right of people in the state to a clean and healthy environment. Following this victory\, van Rossum inaugurated the Green Amendment movement\, dedicated to empowering every American community to mobilize for constitutional change to secure real protection for our environment. \nJoin the Plastic Reduction Committee of Weavers Way Co-Op on May 13 at 6:30pm EDT for a presentation on the Green Amendment from Maya van Rossum and a Q&A focused on how Pennsylvania’s Green Amendment can help battle destructive industries\, plastic\, and pollution. \nRegister in advance here!
