SUMMARY:A Healthy Environment: Is It Our Right or Privilege? with the Rockford Sustainability Committee
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special speaking engagement hosted by the Rockford Sustainability Committee in Michigan! \nWhile many environmental regulations exist\, they often act as a “license to pollute\,” allowing polluters to meet permit requirements without genuinely protecting the environment. These regulations are susceptible to political changes and frequently leave vulnerable populations with little protection or recourse. \nEnshrining environmental rights in the constitution’s bill of rights ensures that these rights cannot be ignored or undermined. By securing a Green Amendment\, we can guarantee a healthy and sustainable environment for current and future generations. Three states currently have a  Green Amendment and another 25 states\, including Michigan\, are actively working toward that goal. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the Green Amendment movement and how we can work together to protect Michigan’s environment for future generations. \nWe look forward to seeing you there and making a difference together! \n\nLocation: Archival Brewing\, 6266 West River Drive\, Belmont\, MI 49306\nDate: Wednesday\, April 16th\nTime: The event will begin at 6:30 pm

SUMMARY:GA Panel Present: Reparative & Restorative Paradigms for Environmental Justice at Rutgers University-Newark
DESCRIPTION:Rutgers University Newark hosts the seminar Reparative and Restorative Paradigms for Environmental Justice\, which examines local and global perspectives to the existential challenges posed by climate change. The seminar will consider how reparative and restorative approaches to environmental justice may offer more inclusive opportunities to re-imagine the terms of citizenship and self-government; ones that embed the interconnectedness of humans and their ecology in culture\, politics\, and laws. Recent conversations about reparations in the United States have drawn on both history and analyses of current economic\, social\, and political perspectives to propose reparative practices that range from monetary compensation to targeted policies that address racial disparities in wealth\, housing discrimination\, and education access\, among others. At a wider scale\, scholars like Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò have offered a constructivist view of reparations that proposes a historically informed project of distributive justice that serves a larger and broader world-making process. The project of reparations\, therefore\, has a forward-facing orientation that by necessity is anchored in the past. \nThe seminar runs Wednesday\, April 23\, 2025\, 9:00am – 6:00pm\nNewark Express\, 54 Halsey Street\, 2nd Floor\, Room 213\, Newark\, NJ 07102 \n\nMaya K. van Rossum\, Founder of Green Amendments For The Generations\, will be speaking in the afternoon on Wednesday\, April 23rd\, 2:00-3:20pm\n\nCost: Free and open to the public. \nAccommodations: Please submit accommodation requests to sawyerseminar@newark.rutgers.edu by Friday\, January 31\, 2025. \nMore details\, registration\, and parking can be found HERE
